Hi Everyone! We got some beautiful Fall weather this weekend!  Today was a little cooler but yesterday was perfect.  I got out to see Dividend Falls and it was beautiful!  It was probably the easiest waterfall to get to as well because you can hear the waterfall just as soon as you hit the trail and a few seconds later you start to see it through the trees.  Dividend was the site for Rocky Hill's first industrial park.  There were a few mills and factories that used to be where the falls are that dated back as far as the 1600's!  I saw some of the  remaining portions of the foundations once I got down to the bottom.  There is also a remaining staircase that borders the waterfall that you can walk on.  Listen to the sound of the falls.....there is just something so calming about the sound of rushing water: Here are a few pictures of falls: The lighting that comes thru the trees in certain parts is amazing.  It's always really...

Hi Everyone! If you didn't make the Plainville Balloon Festival this year, here's a look at what you missed! It was my first time attending at such an early hour (5:30am for 6am launch). I've gone to the festival itself but missed the actual balloon launch.  Since it was so early, I figured there would be a few enthusiates, newscasters, fellow photographers......what I walked into were hundreds waiting, anticipating and very excited.  There were senior couples sitting in lawn chairs, families with children and pets, younger couples that were maybe on this outing together for the first time.  The morning couldn't have been any more perfect, not too cold but cool enough for a light sweater or sweatshirt.  Many were spread out on blankets enjoying their morning coffee.  Thankfully, my significant other, Joe was kind enough to go on this early morning venture with me complete with coffee.  He makes a great assistant :) ...

  Hi Everyone! I'd like you to meet Spring....she is a rescue dog that I had the pleasure of meeting today.  Spring is currently looking for her forever home.  She has had quite a bit of a rough start in life.  She was found in horrible condition with ear infections, dry eyes, skin infections, and then diagnosed with malignant masses.  She had also been bred far too many times for her body to handle.  Thankfully, through donations and gifts Spring has been able to receive treatment and her eyes and skin have cleared up.  Some of her masses have been removed and she is currently scheduled for another surgery on the 27th of this month to be spayed and have a few more masses removed.  She is on the road to recovery!  Spring amazingly seems to be getting through it all and is very loving and affectionate.  When I met her this morning, I wouldn't have guessed that she has been going through such a terrible ordeal. ...

Hi Everyone! Its been awhile....I've been working on various projects, always learning new things and growing! I visited the abandoned Anamet Complex in Waterbury.  As many of you know, I love to go check out older, abandoned places or buildings.  Waterbury is quite interesting to me because there is a lot of history in the huge city known for its now defunct brass industry.  Many buildings are being demolished and/or redeveloped so I hope to get many photos of the city's history before its lost. The Anamet Complex is located in the south end of Waterbury on South Main Street and runs along the Naugatuck River.  The complex was founded in 1908 and was the home of Anaconda Metal Hose by American Brass.  It became the biggest manufacturer of metal hose in the world, spanning 400,000 square footing along 17 acres on South Main Street, employing hundreds.  The company went bankrupt in 1998 and the complex continues to sit, abandoned.  The land i...

Hi Everyone! A long time ago at The Southbury Training School, a facility that houses individuals with intellectual disabilities, once owned and operated a thriving dairy farm in the towns of Southbury and Roxbury that began in the early 1940s when the school initially opened. Governor Malloy has since conveyed 800 acres of the land to the Department of Agriculture protecting the land for agricultural use.  Today, a small portion of the land still remains with the Southbury Training School as the school continues to operate a Christmas tree and chicken farm. Although the farm is abandoned, it still gives a beautiful, scenic view along with crisp, clean air and a nice old fashioned country feel to it. It doesn't feel like a farm that has been shut down but a farm that was simply abandoned one day.  Farm equipment and old trucks still remain. Hi Everyone! I happened to come across the above building by accident while out running errands.  What caught my attention is that it sits in the middle of a field, overgrown with weeds and brush, and has cathedral windows.  Sometimes the beauty of a building speaks to me and I can see so much more than just an old, abandoned building. That was the case with this one. It turns out that its an old pump house, a building used to house and keep from freezing parts of the water system that aren't in a well.  Pump houses were very common in the days before electricity and typically held the pressure tank and switch.  This pump house may date as far back as the late 1800's when Peck, Stowe & Wilcox Company, a manufacturer of mechanical tools, first owned the property in 1870.  Since then the property has been owned by Southington Manufacturing Company and as of late, Ideal Forging.  Ideal Forging was the last tenant and was recently demolished thi...

Hi Everyone, I want to share with you a place that I had the pleasure of visiting this weekend.  It was much more than I anticipated.  Yantic Falls, otherwise known as Indian Leap, is absolutely breathtaking.  This is absolutely the definition of what a "hidden gem" really is.  I cannot believe I haven't been here sooner! I took my mom with me on this particular excursion and I think at this point she is convinced I'm out of my mind, lol.  Judging by the look on her face, I seriously doubt she enjoyed me teetering on a ledge to get "that shot".  You have to understand, when I get in "my zone" I'm unstoppable, lol. This waterfall is breathtaking, to say the least.  There is bridge with railroad tracks that runs right above it.  I'm not certain as to whether or not a train still comes through but the whole scene is beautiful.  Just imagine being on a train looking down  at this waterfall....what a scene!
