Beavertail Lighthouse & Park - Jamestown, Rhode Island

Image
Hi Everyone, Its been a little while, my apologies....its been a great summer! One of my favorite places to visit is Beavertail Lighthouse and Park in Jamestown, Rhode Island.  I went a couple of times this summer and each time I go is like being there for the first time. The lighthouse was built in 1856 and separates the East and West Passages of the Narragansett Bay.  There is a lighthouse museum and you can go up into the top of the lighthouse.  The park itself is beautiful with grassy, wooded and rocky areas to explore.  There are also walking and biking trails. Beavertail is known to also host many weddings and provides beautiful scenery for wedding photos.  Although I don't typically do wedding photographs, I couldn't resist capturing this beautiful little girl.  She was so active and simply adorable in her dress.....she was in pictures with the rest of the bridal party but then kind of strolled off and played by herself. Stroll...

Girls Softball

Image
Hi Everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying all the great weather we've been having! I'm truly enjoying it and there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day for me to be everywhere, lol. Earlier this month, I went to a few of my niece's softball practices and then a game. That's my niece to the left.  I made the mistake of calling her name while she was watching the game....yikes!, lol. It is amazing to watch these girls put in their best efforts at such a young age.  Three words for these girls:  vibrant, determined and competitive.  You can see it in their faces and how they played.  I was fortunate to be able to capture some of what I saw: My niece again....she plays just about every sport. As you can see, this is serious business.  These girls were amazing to watch!  Remember to support the local youths in your town. :-) Til next time, K

Memorial Weekend

Image
Hi Everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic Memorial Weekend!  My weekend was very good, with the exception of brief periods of rain. Let me share with you two spots I visited.  The first place is a revisit....the Wethersfield Cove.  A few months back I was there and it was cold and snow was still on the ground.  I was on the highway and I could see thru the trees a bit to see that people were down there so guess what?  Off the highway I went on one of my "adventures". It was probably about two hours til sunset so many were arriving to go fishing.  Some were at the boat launch ready to get out on the water and others had their gear and were standing or sitting and fishing for a bit by themselves. These two were true fisherman.  They had all their gear and judging by everything they had I'm almost certain it was a good evening for them.  There's nothing better than catching up with your best pal while doing something you both enjoy. Un...

Lighthouse Point

Image
Hi All! I was out at Lighthouse Point and it was beautiful! This is the first shot I took as I was approaching the lighthouse.  The lighthouse first opened in 1847. A carousel built in 1916 is located behind the lighthouse .  It runs and can be rented for private parties.   It would be a great spot for a child's birthday party.  There is also a huge playscape for kids to play on. There is also a pavilion nearby to hold private functions.  On this day, the pavilion was being set up for a wedding. Its too bad that no one is able to go up into the lighthouse because I would have loved to have gotten a shot from the top! A few people had arrived early and were strolling about enjoying the scenery.  I took these two photos from out on the rocks that extended into the water.   As you can see its the perfect spot for couples to spend quality time and take pictures. These two appeared to be on a shoot.  The photographer was takin...

Welcome to New Haven

Image
Hi Everyone! This weekend has certainly been interesting with the weather acting like its uncertain what season it was wants to be in.  However, it was gracious to me while I had some fun down in New Haven. What I really like about New Haven is that its always very busy, you see many different people and activities happening.  I like to think of it as a slight preview before you get to New York... Many people are waiting for the bus....some are talking on their cell phones, listening to music or just standing around taking in the scene. My son elected to get himself in the next shot....somehow he figured I wouldn't see him.  He underestimates me, lol. Here he is again as we head to Buffalo Wings for lunch.....and what a good lunch it was! Back out on the street again.....ALOT of traffic.  You see a little bit of everything on the main streets.  Its been awhile since I've seen anyone riding with a boom box.  I really got that...

Rockville, Connecticut: The Hockanum Mills

Image
Hi Everyone, It looks like the warmer weather is finally upon us!  That being said, I’ve been out and about seeing people and things, lol.  Which brings me to the Town of Rockville……have you been there lately?  It’s one of those little towns that I think gets overlooked.  It’s a small section of Vernon and appears a bit run down but you have to look beyond that.  There is a lot of construction going on there presently so its an up and coming town.  Rockville has quite a bit of interesting history to it. The downtown section has e a few older, beautiful structures on the main street but what caught my eye was the Hockanum Mills.  I like where it’s situated.  The mill is located on an uphill bend and when you are standing at the top, the view gives the impression of a once prominent mill overlooking the town.   These are photos of the mill at the top of the hill with its name facing the town: This is the part I really enj...

The Mystique & Harbor Park

Image
Hi Everyone,   I was recently at Harbor Park and the Mystique from the Lady Katharine Cruises was docked there.  She began her sailing almost 20 years ago in the New York Harbor by providing tourists with breathtaking views of New York City.  Since 2004, she has been sailing the Connecticut River and hosting many events such as weddings, proms, milestone and corporate events.  If you haven't had the opportunity to board the Mystique, I encourage you to do so.  I've been aboard for a few events and have had a great time.  The Mystique is set up with two enclosed dining areas and a tented observation tent, which I have also had the pleasure of enjoying a cool summer breeze from.  The cruise along the Connecticut River is both relaxing and breathtaking.  Here's a sneak peek from Harbor Park: Harbor Park is also home to the Mattabesett Canoe Club where you can dine while enjoying views of the Connecticut River.  The Canoe C...
